Plus size clothing has come a long way. No longer do you need to search the Internet or spend hours in a department store looking for your size, 12-44 and up. Many of your favorite department stores have wonderful plus size departments, and online catalogs and stores have come to the front of the fashion line. Why? Because over 50% of American women wear a size 12 and up, and the fashion industry woke up to the needs of women with...bodies shaped like women. That's not to say a woman who wears a size six isn't shaped like a woman, but to those who wear larger sizes, clothing with the same current and trendy style was (at one time) hard to find. Not anymore. Beautiful suits, dresses with empire waists, full bustlines and trousers that fit in all the right places are plentiful from stores & catalogs like: Macy's, IGIGI, Nordstrom's, Fashion Bug, Catherines, Lane Bryant, Roaman's, Jessica London and more. I've noticed that the plus size and women's fashion styles certainly lean toward the wonderfully feminine side. Dresses flow in yards of fabric, in short or long with an A-line design, offering flattering empire waists, sashes, and bustlines. They accentuate a woman's shape-not hide it, yet, they hide what we may want hidden. Very desirable qualities-accentuate the positive! They are sassy, sweet and sexy.
Blouses and tops often have sashes around the waist, are made of stretch fabric, and taper around the waist. Pair a classic white blouse with some wide leg trousers, (thank God they're back with an updated twist), and you've got one great look that will take you from office to after-office liaison! Tops which flow, (not cling) below the bustline are big right now, and offer you the peace of mind you crave when you sit and want to feel confident no bulges are showing! Most of us have them, and don't particularly want to advertise them to the world...
Plus size and woman's activewear has not been left out of the fashion loop. Workout apparel offers support and style. No more hiding behind layers of sweatshirts, sweatpants, etc. There's no need. What you want covered is covered, and most importantly, sports tops and bras offer the kind of support you need while working out, going for a brisk walk, etc. Yoga wear in larger sizes is plentiful, and will really bring out the 'Zen' in you. It's comfortable & breathable-just what you need while doing your yoga routine. (I'm a real novice when it comes to yoga, but I love it!)
Whether you like jeans that are high-waisted, sit at your natural waist, or sit below the waist, there are many styles to choose from in your size. Most have a bit of spandex in them, which, to me, is the best thing to arrive on the fashion scene since sliced bread, (pardon the cliche). A fitted look and comfort are a spectacular match! Whether you're a size 16 or a 26, jeans made for your body type in the styles you love are everywhere and are 'booty-full"!
Let's not forget swimwwear. You don't need to dread trying on bathingsuits anymore with the stylish and sexy tankinis out there. You can walk down the beach, or sit by the pool feeling like a goddess in these wonderful bathing suits. They cover what you want covered, without making you LOOK like you want to cover everything!
